Ben and I just got home (with the dogs) after "evacuating" to College Station for a couple of days. We stayed through the storm, which was very scary, and are extremely lucky to report that we had no real damage from Hurricane Ike. I will never, ever stay in town for anything more than a Category 2 (what Ike was) and we will definitely board up our windows next time. It was an awful night- horrible storm, wondering if your windows were going to blow in at any second, power on and off and on and off, NO sleep at all, hearing a TREE fall on your house...no bueno. We actually spent part of our night/morning in our closet (the only room with no windows) with the 2 dogs because it was so bad. We have some uprooted bushes and a tree fell on our house (but NO damage- pretty amazing!) and everything else is just fine. We are blessed. People in our own neighborhood- just down the street- were not so lucky and have roof damage, blown fences, etc. Like everyone else, we lost power and after a day without power, we decided to head to our good friends, the Ksionda's, in College Station. We are so lucky to have such great friends to take us in :).
Again, we are some of the lucky ones in that we already have power back on at our house. My work is closed all week and Ben's not quite sure what's going on at his. Yesterday their call-in said to go back TODAY (crazy) and today it says it's closed.
I took a few pictures that I'll try and upload some time this week, but they don't really do justice to what you see driving around Houston. Hope everyone in Houston is staying safe!
